Eagles Wheelchair sides reports

29/07/2024

Both our Wheelchair Red and Gold sides were in action this weekend. Read below to find out how both sides got on in their respective fixtures.

Wheelchair Red | Wakefield Trinity 10-84 Sheffield Eagles (27/07/24) - Championship East

A dominant display by Sheffield Eagles kept them top of the Wheelchair Championship East as they completed a league double over Wakefield Trinity.

The Eagles looked razor sharp as they opened the scoring through Ben Simpson’s pass from Chris Haynes as Wakefield appeared to be napping. Simpson was in again on the other side of the field shortly afterwards, with Chris Haynes following him in shortly afterwards and Stephen Reilly striking to pile on the early points for the Eagles.

A bobbling ball in the in-goal area was pounced on by Sid Ramsey to get Wakefield off the mark, but he was unable to convert.

The Eagles responded with quickfire tries from Haynes and Reilly adding further points, before Head Coach Greg Brown rotated his bench. Joe Wink-Simmonds added two tries, sandwiching a further Chris Haynes score before the break to make the half time score 4-60.

After the break, Reilly was in again, but the Eagles used the game time to practice some set plays and last tackle moves, with Ben Simpson scoring off a high kick and Chris Haynes going in on a passing move. Wink-Simmonds added a further short range try towards the end, but the final word went to Trinity’s Ashley Lockwood who forces his way over, with Kate Haigh adding the conversion to round off the day.

Sheffield Eagles A won their first game of the season with a friendly against Colostomy UK, a game played in great spirits as the opening of Colostomy UK’s big day out with Sheffield Eagles.

Andy Clare marked his first appearance for the A team with a try nine minutes in, with Kyle Bonsor responding for the purples shortly afterwards.

Shaun Orton scored the first of his hat-trick on the quarter of an hour mark, with Jack Johnson going in the corner shortly afterwards to give the Eagles a half time lead.

Orton’s second and third scores sandwiched a Stuart Wilkinson try, with several of the Eagles on kicking duties adding conversions to move the scoreboard further.

Livewire Jenny Pearson, an Eagles first team player, playing with Colostomy UK in this game added a second score for the purples, with Bonsor adding a final score late in the game.
