Eagles report zero positive COVID-19 cases
Sheffield Eagles have reached the milestone on conducting 500 Lateral Flow Tests with zero positive results.
The club have been carrying out testing for COVID-19 in line with RFL & Government guidelines for the ‘return to train for Elite Sports’.
Speaking of the news, Eagles General Manager (and Club COVID-19 Officer) Liam Claffey said: “It’s great we have had no positive results at training,”
“We aren’t naive and understand it could happen at anytime and laws of averages suggest it probably will at some point and we are fully prepared for that eventuality.
“It’s by no freak accident we’ve carried out over 500 tests now and we’ve not had a positive result yet.
“The players and backroom have been fantastic to say the least. We have had to adapt like all clubs, putting in place stringent rules but they have all followed these to the letter.
“The squad understand it’s a difficult time and when we’ve adapted they’ve followed and credit to them.
“A huge personal thanks goes from me to our backroom staff who have been exceptional.
“They have carried out the testing, taken temperatures and ensured we keep on top of other areas such as hand sanitising, social distancing and wearing masks.
“Again, we know it’s perhaps only a matter of time before we do get a positive case but we fully intend to ensure that doesn’t happen and are not being complacent.
“Credit to the RFL too, they’ve kept clubs informed every time there has been a change and assisted with questions when asked.
“The season is fast approaching and we are determined to make sure we go into it with a best a pre-season as possible.”
The Eagles season gets underway against York City Knights on Friday 19 March in the Betfred Challenge Cup.
The game will take place behind closed doors but supporters can watch the game for free via Challenge Cup sponsors Betfred. Further details to follow.
