Eagles launch Talent Pathway Programme
13/03/2025
Sheffield Eagles and The Eagles Foundation are delighted to announce details of the Eagles Talent Pathway (ETP) programmes for 2025!
The Eagles Talent Pathway will see an expanded series of player and coach development opportunities for those currently involved at South Yorkshire’s community clubs, alongside a newly-established programme aiming to grow the rugby league talent pool in Sheffield.
All ETP programmes will offer junior and youth players an opportunity to work in a high-quality environment, with sessions delivered by Sheffield Eagles and Eagles Foundation coaches covering core rugby league skill, game understanding, athletic development and lifestyle education.
All sessions are open access and free of charge, making the Eagles Talent Pathway as accessible as possible for all junior players in South Yorkshire.
For the first time, each programme will also support community coaches to develop their skills, with coaches who engage in the Coach Development Workshops offered the opportunity to work alongside Eagles staff to deliver aspects of the ETP.
In an exciting development for 2025, the Flying Futures, High Flyers, NXT GEN and coach development workshops will all be delivered at the Steel City Stadium at Olympic Legacy Park – the home of the Sheffield Eagles.
Player registrations for Flying Futures are now open, with registrations for High Flyers, NXT GEN and Coach Development Workshops opening soon!
Flying Futures – U12s & U13s Boys; U12s to U16s Girls
After a successful inaugural year in 2025, Flying Futures will expand to offer more frequent sessions throughout the summer months to offer increased contact time for players with the Eagles coaches. Sessions are open to players in U12s and U13s boys (Y7 & Y8) teams, and girls in U12s to U16s (Y7 to Y11) teams.

High Flyers – U14s/U15s & U16s/U17s Boys
Our High Flyers programme will also expand and include a new U14s/U15s offer, allowing players from last year’s Flying Futures U13s to remain in the Eagles pathway and giving U15s players an opportunity to develop in a high level environment. The High Flyers cohort from 2024 will move to U16s/U17s, ensuring that players remain in the Eagles’ programme. Registration for this programme will be coming soon!
NXT GEN
Launching in May 2025, NXT GEN will offer development opportunities for emerging rugby league talent. The programme is primarily targeted at young people in the city’s secondary schools who have experienced rugby league in the Eagles’ InspiredBy 9s School Festivals, or through school and community delivery with the Foundation and wish to take up the sport but may not able to access existing offers due to their location in the city. Player registrations will open in the coming weeks.
Coach Development Workshops
In another new addition for 2025, the Eagles will offer a series of coach development workshops to empower volunteer coaches delivering grassroots activity in community clubs. Upon completion of these workshops, coaches may be invited to deliver on the Eagles Talent Pathway programmes throughout July and August, alongside Eagles coaches. Registrations for the Caoch Development workshops and expressions of interest in roles within the ETP will open in the coming weeks.
