Eagles to host Doncaster in pre-season friendly

Sheffield Eagles will take on local rivals Doncaster at the Olympic Legacy Park on Sunday 29th January. 

Building up to a big Betfred Championship campaign, Director of Rugby Mark Aston has opted for a pre-season friendly as battle commences for starting spots in a competitive squad. 

The Dons, recently strengthened by the acquisition of former Eagle Brad Knowles, are a leading club in the third tier and will be looking to hit the ground running against Aston’s troops. 

When questioned about fitting a friendly into the pre-season schedule, Aston said: “It makes sense for both clubs,” 

“We have brought in quite a few new faces so we feel it’s right to get one booked in, and against a tough side in Doncaster. 

“Having the game at the OLP is good for our fans and also the new lads coming in, so they get used to playing on it in a match environment. 

“We’re looking forward to it and we thank Richard Horne, Carl Hall and the guys at Doncaster for making this work.”
