Eagles announce Render capture

Sheffield Eagles are pleased to announce the capture of Featherstone Rovers utility back Jack Render on a one-year deal.
The youngster joins the Eagles after two years at Featherstone Rovers, where he made 22 appearances in 2019.
Before his Rovers stint, Render captained the Castleford Tigers Academy and scored 38 tries in his final two years at Wheldon Road.
Discussing his move to South Yorkshire, Render said: “I am very happy to be joining the Eagles,”
“Having not played in a while, it’s good to be part of a young, hungry team that also has some great experience.
“I felt it was in my best interests to move away from Featherstone and get more game time.
“After what has happened this year too, I wanted a fresh start.”
Render explained that the move to Sheffield happened swiftly, after he decided his future was going to be away from Post Office Road.
“I only decided that I didn’t want to sign for another year at Featherstone a couple of weeks ago,” he added.
“Quite a few clubs had no space as their squads were sorted but I put a few feelers out and Sheffield were one of the teams that came forward.
“Tubbs sold the club to me and that’s why I’m here now.”
Eagles Head Coach Mark Aston commented: “Jack is a good kid and has come out of a good Castleford system,”
“He has got some potential after playing 20-odd games for Featherstone last year.
“It’s good that he can cover a number of positions too; full-back, wing and centre.
“He has an attitude to develop and be the best he can be.”
Aston is pleased to add another body to the club’s competition for places, with Render competing against some experienced players as well as fellow young guns.
“We want to fetch these kids into the club, into our culture, with the aim to develop them and be around us for a long time,” he added.
“Of course it’s about competition for places but we have got the likes of Rob Worrincy who is great to learn from, as well as Keith Senior on our coaching staff.
“I remember when we got Rob from Castleford Tigers when he was 21-years-old.
“This is the same sort of thing with Jack, who has the same sort of potential that Rob had back then.”
