Davey on board for 2022

14/10/2021

Experienced hooker James Davey has re-signed with Sheffield Eagles for the 2022 season.

A part of the Grand Final winning teams of 2012 and 2013, Qualifiers squad of 2015 and the 2019 Wembley winners - Davey has been a constant figure in recent Eagles success.

Another year in the Red and Gold awaits for the dummy-half and he is ready to get stuck in at the new stadium.

“I’m really happy to be staying here,” he said.

“I love the club. It’s going to be my eighth season with the club across two stints so it’s good to be here for another year.

“It was a pretty straightforward decision (to stay).

“I know I’ve not got many years left in my career and I do want to finish my career here.

“Whether this will be my final season or not, we’ll see how I perform and go from there.”

“One of the reasons I wanted to stay is for the fans as we finally get to be back in Sheffield.

“I played at Don Valley in 2012 and 2013, we had a couple of great years then and we’ll be looking to bring those good times back.”

Eagles Director of Rugby Mark Aston complimented Davey’s professionalism over the years and he is delighted to have him in the squad once again.

“We first had him in 2012 till 2015, he went away and then he came back,” he reflected.

“That speaks volumes for us as when he left, he left in the right way and when he came back he certainly added something to us.

“He still has the hunger to compete at this level.

“It’s massive having stability in the squad and James Davey brings that to us.”
