Ben Jones-Bishop signs for Sheffield Eagles

Sheffield Eagles are delighted to announce the signing of Ben Jones-Bishop on a one-year deal.

The Jamaican international came through the Leeds Rhinos Academy before enjoying a 12-year spell in Super League with the Rhinos, Salford Red Devils and Wakefield Trinity.

Last season, Jones-Bishop dropped down to the Championship with York City Knights and helped them to the 1895 Cup Final at Wembley.

Discussing his move to South Yorkshire and how it happened, Jones-Bishop said: “I am very excited,”

“It’s an exciting year as we move to the OLP and I am looking forward to working with the boys and the coaching staff.

“It’s quite a late move as I got a text from Joel Farrell asking if I had signed anywhere yet.

“I was in conversation with clubs elsewhere, the next day I had an offer from the Eagles and the day after I met Mark (Aston) and we spoke for around three hours.”

The utility back is eager to get started with the Eagles, where he will link up with a number of international teammates in the Farrell brothers and Kadeem Williams.

With a new stadium around the corner and the club looking to grow on and off the field, Jones-Bishop wants to make his mark in a city he knows well.

“One of the big reasons I am at the club is a bit of familiarity,” he said.

“They are the players I know. I know how passionate Faz is and it’s brilliant to have him on your team.

“I am also familiar with the city as I studied at Sheffield Hallam University for four years.

“It’s great to be back here. The club is going into the new stadium and it’s great to be a part of the plans for the next year.

“Hopefully we can have a great season and enjoy our new home.”

Eagles Director of Rugby Mark Aston added: “Ben is a fantastic player, it goes without saying,”

“His CV speaks for itself, he is a champion in everything he does and is a brilliant acquisition.

“I'd like to thank my board of directors for their support in getting Ben's signature over the line - we had some tough competition and I'm thrilled he's an Eagle in 2022.”

Ben’s 2022 corporate sponsor will be Extra Time Sports Bar and his personal sponsors are Alison & Carmen.
