2024 Departing Players
23/09/2024
As announced at our 2024 Presentation Evening on Saturday night at Bramall Lane, we’re sad to announce that Jack Hansen, Ryan Johnson and Izaac Farrell will depart the Sheffield Eagles at the end of the 2024 season.
Half-back Jack Hansen originally joined the Eagles ahead of the 2023 Betfred Championship season from Swinton Lions and has become a key influence at the club since his arrival.
This year has seen Hansen show his versatility on the field, playing in the halves, at hooker, and at full-back, contributing with seven tries and five goals in 21 appearances.
After departing Hull FC at the end of the 2020 campaign, Ryan Johnson moved to the Sheffield Eagles and has been with the club for the last four seasons.
Johnson has scored three tries in four appearances this year for the club, as well as spending time on dual registration in League One with Midlands Hurricanes, where 8 tries in 13 games helped the club reach the playoff semi-finals.
Izaac Farrell will also be leaving the club at the end of the season. The half-back joined the club following his departure from Huddersfield Giants in 2019 and has gone on to score 13 tries, 135 goals, 2 drop goals, and achieve 324 points with the club during his five seasons in South Yorkshire.
After the announcement of Anthony Thackeray last week who will retire at the end of the season, we’re sad to also announce the departure of Aaron Murphy, who will also hang up his boots at the end of the season.
After spending fourteen seasons as a winger in Super League, he became a back-row forward ahead of a move to Bradford in 2021, before joining the Eagles ahead of the start of 2023. Since being in South Yorkshire, Murphy has made 29 appearances for the club, scoring 8 times in those games.
We’d like to wish all the departing players the best for their future endeavours.
