Primary Schools

Sky Try has been a major motivator in Primary Schools developing Tag Rugby within curriculum time. Despite a major drop in funding for this particular project we are able to deliver curriculum coaching to Year 3 & 4 within a Key Stage 2 environment.

In 2017 we focussed on working directly with the Arches School Sports Partnership, largely assisted by the excellent Sports Development Manager, Adam Fuller who is based at Forge Valley Community School.

From the activity, engaging over 1,600 pupils, we will develop three new Community Satellite clubs at Under-8 & Under-9 age groups.

In 2016/17 educational year we will work within the Hinde House/Firth Park Academy cluster, the Ecclesfield School cluster and the Forge Valley Community School cluster.

As a charity, we cannot deliver complimentary sessions as we are reliant on grants, fundraising and donations. We would love to work with every Primary School in Sheffield from Key Stage 1 with FUNdamentals through Key Stage 2 with Dance & Tag Rugby.

Secondary Schools

‘Embed the Pathway’ is an RFL project to support the growth of Rugby League within Secondary School at Key Stage 3.

Schools are guided through an accreditation to be given England Player Development School status while we provide CPD coaching for teachers or support staff and a curriculum coaching pack to assist with the delivery of sessions designed by our Coach Education team.

Recently, five schools received the accreditation and these were Hinde House, Bradfield, All Saints Catholic High School, Forge Valley Community School & Yewlands.

Meadowhead were given guidance as to how to achieve the accreditation and will no doubt be successful in early 2017.

Development days are held to work with talented athletes and provide them with the opportunity to learn at a higher level.

‘Rising Stars’ works in a similar way but is aimed at Key Stage 4 which works directly with Year 10 & 11. From the trial day, there are six sessions focussing on technique, decision making and game scenarios.

While the Under 16’s of Sheffield won’t have any matches assigned, it will be an indicator as to which players may progress on the pathway to Academy & first team success.

Both projects have been supported by the RFL and MFH Contract Engineering and we thank them for their generosity.
