Sheffield 10k for 10k - Update 2
04/07/2023
Here’s your second update on the Eagles Foundation’s £10k for 10k fundraising campaign, linked to the Sheffield 10k which takes place on Sunday 24th September!
The Foundation is aiming to raise £10,000 to support its work, building on the successes to date, which includes running our Learning Disability, Women’s and Wheelchair Rugby League sides, supports our Touch and Walking Rugby sessions and helps us to reach 1000s of young people in Sheffield each year. We’re aiming to get at least 20 people running and will provide everyone with a running top for the day and a group Just Giving page is in the final throes of being set up!
Runners need to sign up at https://www.runforall.com/events/10k/sheffield-10k/ and then email us at enquiries@eaglesfoundation.co.uk with your name and contact details so we know you’re registered!
Our latest crop of runners to sign up are from the Eagles high flying women’s team!
Capucine Auger – One of our most popular women’s team members who when asked why she is signing up responded; “Why on earth?” but went on to say how much she loves the club and the work of the Foundation and it’s a great cause.
Beth Arnold – Another one of our promotion winning team who says the only running she ever does is on the pitch.
“I’m running it because it’s an opportunity to raise money for the foundation” she added.
“I play for the women’s squad and volunteer with the girls and LDRL squad and I know raising money for the foundation will help support these teams!”
Liam Browne – The women’s team head coach felt it was important to show leadership with the group and take on the challenge.
“If I’m running usually, it probably means I’m being chased” he quipped when asked about his running experience.
“The Foundation has given the me the chance to be the women’s head coach and I want to be able to give something back and set an example to the players – I can’t ask them to do something I am not prepared to do myself” he added.
Very sensible indeed.
Dan Burt – The women’s team assistant coach is following the lead of Liam, but has more running experience.
“I enjoy running as a stress release, so I’m out a lot doing short or long distance and I’ve completed the Sheffield Half Marathon twice” he notes.
But Dan’s motivation for running is one of the reasons the work of the Eagles Foundation is so important.
“My motivation is to help the Eagles Foundation. Before getting involved to help coach the women, I was very socially awkward” he admits.
“I’d rarely speak to people I didn’t know and since being given the push into coaching, I’ve come out of my shell massively and I am more confident day to day.
"Taking part in the £10k for 10k and helping to raise funds to repay the Foundation as a thank-you and to help them to provide other people with the same opportunities I have been given is very important to me.”
They join the list of those runners previously profiled:
Andrea Dobson (Foundation Development Officer)
Richard King (Foundation Heritage Officer)
Jack Pemberton (Foundation Disability Inclusion Officer)
David Butler (Foundation Trustee)
We’ll have more news on some sign-ups next week who are having to be more innovative in their approach to taking part in the 10k and hope to bring you details of how you can sponsor the runners!
