Hard-hitting Liu re-signs for 2023
08/10/2022
Bayley Liu will be a Sheffield Eagles player in 2023 after signing a one-year deal.
The forward, signed from Dewsbury Rams ahead of the 2022 season, didn’t get an extended amount of game time due to injuries but certainly impressed when out on the field.
A popular member of the squad, Liu - who is in the Scotland squad for the upcoming World Cup - can’t wait for the new year.
“I’m really happy to be staying, especially after having a pretty serious injury at the start of the year,” he said.
“When I was injured, Tubbs was asking about possibly staying on for next year so I was definitely happy to do so.
“It’s probably been my best year in terms of rugby. The coaching staff are really approachable and it’s not always about rugby either.
“That certainly shows when we play too, it shows the environment we’re in as we all want to play well for each other.
“I’ve had a chat with Tubbs about what we wants from me next year and it’s exciting for me.
“I’ll be going back after the World Cup, working hard and hopefully be a bit more consistent with less injuries and help to be a big part of our season.”
Mark Aston, Eagles’ Director of Rugby, is just as pleased as Liu to see the forward extend his stint in South Yorkshire.
“To have Bayley with us for another year is brilliant for everyone at the club,” said Aston.
“When he played, he provided a big impact in attack and defence. He has a great offloading game and that is something we want within the squad.
“He deserves a bit of luck on the injury front.
“He’s certainly done more than enough to have another year with us.
“If he can get that bit of luck then he will be able to show us what he’s made of on a weekly basis.”
