Burns brothers depart Eagles

15/11/2021

Sheffield Eagles can confirm brothers Greg Burns & Paddy Burns will not be part of the 2022 playing squad.

The local Steel City brothers started playing rugby with the Sheffield (then Hillsborough) Hawks community club before joining the Eagles Talent Pathway.

Paddy will be taking some time out of the game following two confirmed concussions during the 2021 season & speaking with a specialist.

The club fully support Paddy’s decision and look forward to him returning play rugby league in the near future.

Greg was unable to reach an agreement with the club and our thanks go to him for his outstanding efforts during his time with the Eagles.

Speaking of their departures Mark Aston said: “It’s never easy saying farewell to players, especially those we have nurtured and known for such a long time,"

“They are local boys and are a testament to Sheffield Eagles and Rugby League within the city.

“Sadly, injuries and players moving on are part & parcel of our game. It’s a tough, physical sport but we must ensure player welfare remains at the forefront at all times.”

“Paddy is right to take sometime away and Greg will hopefully start a new chapter in the sport and my best wishes go to both of them – great individuals who have done the club & family proud.”
