Sheffield Eagles suffered a 32-12 defeat at the hands of Featherstone Rovers on Friday night.
In the Eagles’ final Friday Night Lights match of 2018, Mark Aston’s men were unable to bounce back after losing to Dewsbury Rams a week prior.
However, just like against Dewsbury, the Eagles’ youngsters showed that the future is bright with decent shifts.
Blake Broadbent notched a brace in only his third appearance for the Eagles while fellow Academy products Paddy Burns, Greg Burns and Cory Aston all featured.
Both sides cancelled each other out in the opening quarter as neither could break the deadlock.
On 26 minutes, Broadbent put Sheffield in front as he crashed over from short range. Oscar Thomas converted.
A disastrous six-minute spell ensued after the hosts took the lead, with Featherstone scoring three tries and putting their foot on the gas.
Brad Knowles squirmed over before Anthony Thackeray and Harry Newman both crossed. Ian Hardman kicked two goals to give Featherstone a 16-6 half-time lead.
The visitors extended their lead in the 43rd minute when Dakota Whylie found the whitewash.
Hardman and Newman then put the game beyond doubt as the final quarter loomed, with the pair scoring a try each. The former converted one of the scores.
Newman finished the game in the sin-bin as he stopped Sheffield’s attempt of a quick tap by throwing the ball away.
Featherstone tagged on a penalty goal after winning two penalties in a row but the final say went to the Eagles as ‘Beans’ dotted down to complete his brace.
