Match Report

Sheffield Eagles were beaten 46-12 by London Broncos at Trailfinders Sports Ground this afternoon.

Matty Fozard registered the opening try of the game but London finished the half with a flourish, scoring four tries to go 20-6 up while the Eagles had Matty Costello and Ryan Millar in the sin-bin.

The second period saw Oliver Davies cut the deficit before London prop Ben Evans was given his marching orders for fighting.

However, despite the numerical disadvantage, London sealed the victory with tries from Jarrod Sammut, Matt Davis, Kieron Dixon and Rhys Williams in the final quarter.

Sheffield started the game well and they got their reward in the ninth minute as Fozard crossed the whitewash. The captain converted his own effort.

There were no more tries until the half-hour mark as Williams cut the deficit, before Sammut added the extras to level the scores.

Minutes later, Mark Ioane touched down to give London their first lead of the afternoon. Sammut couldn’t convert.

Things turned more sour for Sheffield when Costello and Millar were sin-binned, either side of another Broncos try – this time for Matt Gee.

Sammut missed the conversion but soon made amends as Gee crossed once again, with the Maltese international hitting the target with his fourth attempt of the day.

After the restart, Davies found his way to the whitewash and Sheffield were looking to make more ground on their full-time opponents. Fozard converted.

Broncos forward Evans was sent off for punching in the 55th minute and there was a further melee moments afterwards but no cards were shown on that occasion.

On the hour, London full back Alex Walker got over the try-line but was held up by some great defence.

The Broncos soon extended their lead to three scores as Sammut supported a Walker break, the former on hand to convert.

London won consecutive penalties to move them into Eagles territory and they opted to take the two points, which Sammut gladly added to the scoreboard.

Davis and Dixon both got on the scoresheet in the dying embers of the clash, with Sammut converting both.
