Sheffield Hallam Eagles first ever game ended in a narrow defeat at the weekend with a 42-40 lost at home to Bristol Sonics at Don Valley Stadium.

It was an excellent first encounter but the game was lost in the last five minutes with Bristol taking the narrow lead and hanging on for the win.

Hallam Eagles next game is this Saturday away to Leicester Storm, kick off 2.30pm.

altThe Sheffield Eagles reserve grade turned in an accomplished performance to overcome York by 50 points to 12 at Mount St. Mary's.

A hat-trick from Eddie Battye, and additional tries from Joey Lutterull, Leigh Sanders, Scott Smith, Nathan Powley, Kane Feek, Shaun Roberts and Lewis Straughn racked up the Eagles half-century.  Nathan Walmsley added five goals in a convincing victory.

The Knights' two tries both came from Jack Stearman, with Tyler Craig kicking the conversions.

Eagles: Lutterull, Straughn, A Williams, Tyers, Ashton, Roberts, Walmsley, Hawksworth, P Smith, Battye, Sanders, R Williams, Powley.  Replacements: S Smith, Hornsby, Feek, Williamson.

Knights: Dent, Baxter, Silburn, Pountney, Winstanley, Craig, Carmody, Fox, Brining, Stearman, Whitefield, Law, Hutchinson.  Replacements: Thorpe, Mann.

altThe Sheffield Eagles reserve grade slipped to a 32-26 defeat at the hands of Halifax at the Shay.

It was a gallant display from Sheffield, who were trailing 24-4 at one stage in the first half, against a Fax side featuring former Eagles player Sam Barlow.

Halifax: Martin, Patrice, Lumb, Bradley, Holroyde, Hynes, Ratcliffe, Wood, Manning, Davies, Fairbank, Goodman, Jackson.  Replacements: Smith, White, Benn, Barlow.

Eagles: Jones, Straughn, Ashton, Powley, Barlow, Roberts, P Smith, Hawksworth, S Smith, Battye, Hull, Scott, Sanders.  Replacements: Luttrell, Walmsley, Williams, Williamson.

The Sheffield Eagles Reserve Grade team slipped to their first defeat of the season at Mount St. Mary's to their counterparts from Featherstone.

Tries from Eddie Battye, Lewis Straughn and Sam Williamson weren't enough as Featherstone cruised to a comfortable 18-50 victory.

Eagles: Tattersall, Stockman, Ashton, Powley, Straughn, Roberts, Walmsley, Hawksworth, Smith, Battye, Hull, Sanders, Hornsby.  Replacements: Swift, Smith, Williams, Williamson.

Oldham Reserves 14-38 Eagles Reserves PDF Print E-mail

The Sheffield Eagles reserve team were victorious in their first game of the season, away to Oldham at the Whitebank Stadium.

The home side took the lead through Chris Dean, but the Eagles hit back with first half tries from Scott Smith, Nathan Walmsley, Sam Williamson and Frank Barlow to give themselves a 22-6 half time advantage.

Tom Rigby and Danny Langtree crossed for Oldham in the second half, but a double from man of the match Scott Turner and a Brad Tattersall try sealed the points for Sheffield.

The game also saw Alex Rowe continue his comeback from injury after the big prop forward came off the bench in Friday's victory over the York City Knights.

Oldham: Neild, Onyango, Hinsley, Dean, Rigby, Read, Connick, Thomas, Mansfield, Eyres, Bailey, Langtree, Smith. Replacements: Hughes, Noon, Jackson, Joy.
