The Eagles maintained their 100% start to the season with a 22-40 victory over the Hunslet Hawks at the South Leeds Stadium.
A commanding first half performance from the visitors put them 0-36 up inside half an hour, but a disappointing second half display allowed Hunslet back in to the game.
The game started excellently for Sheffield with the 'try machine' Nev Morrison notching his fifth and sixth scores of the season. The first came after a sweeping passing move gave the former Doncaster winger a walk-in. The second was a brilliantly worked try with Quentin Laulu-Togagae joining the attack and he linked up with Misi Taulapapa who flicked an audacious ball to Morrison to touch down, just inside the field of play. Simon Brown continued his fine form with the boot by converting both tries from out on the right touchline.
Laulu-Togagae then got himself on the scoresheet, providing support play for Vinny Finigan who made the break and drew in the full back before offloading to the Samoan. Brown converted to make the score 0-18.
Dominic Brambani provided the next significant contribution of the game with a pinpoint 40/20 kick to give Sheffield field position just ten metres out from the Hunslet line, and Liam Higgins took advantage by registering his first try of the season under the posts. Brown added the extras.
A knock-on from the home side close to their own line was the cause of the Eagles' next points, the ball went wide from the base of the scrum and Menzie Yere eventually crashed over for his third try of the season. Brown goaled again.
The visitors' final points of the first stanza came courtesy of an opportunistic try from hooker Andrew Henderson, who scooted from dummy half and evaded two defenders to cross under the posts. Brown's conversion made the score 0-36.
The Hawks finally got on the board just before the half time siren, Dennis Tuffour making the break down the right hand side before supplying Gareth Davies who touched down in the corner. The conversion was missed by Danny Ratcliffe making the half-time score 4-36.
Josh Nathaniel opened the scoring in the second period, latching on to scrum half Danny Allen's grubber kick close to the posts. Ratcliffe converted to reduce the arrears to 26 points.
Indiscipline then started to get the better of the Eagles. Hunslet failed to break Sheffield's rearguard with five consecutive sets of six, but the referee then punished the visitors by sin-binning Higgins for persistent penalties.
Allen crashed over the line for Hunslet to further close the scores, then Davies crossed for his second try of the game from a Ratcliffe grubber kick to give the hosts real hopes of claiming an unlikely bonus point. Ratcliffe added the extra two points on both occasions.
But Henderson had the last say for Sheffield, another scoot from the dummy half position to register his third try of the season. Brown was un-successful with the conversion to make the final score Hunslet Hawks 22-40 Sheffield Eagles.
