Prop forward Liam Higgins has moved back to the Super League Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Doncaster-born Higgins joined the Eagles at the start of the season from Castleford Tigers.

The 27-year-old played in all eight of the Eagles games in Cup and League competitions this season.

“It’s a loss because we wish he had been here longer,” said Eagles’ coach Mark Aston.

“I’d have like more time with him but he has the chance to play in the Super League and Sheffield Eagles wishes him well.”

The Eagles is negotiating a compensation package which is expected to include a pre-season game against the Wildcats.

Higgins came through the junior ranks at Hull FC before moving to Castleford Tigers in 2007. He helped Cas win promotion back to the Super League in his first season and played more than 100 games for the club.

In his time at the Eagles he worked on the Community Team taking rugby league into local schools.
