Eagles’ seven-week touch rugby tournament was big success and is set to be repeated in summer.

The Young Guns team was the winner of the 'Serious' league with Special Sonics taking the honours in the ‘Novice’ division.

Andy Russell, from the Eagles Community staff, said: “It was a great success. We had eight teams taking part in a two-league structure.”

“One league was a novice competition, for those who wanted to give touch rugby a try in order to increase their skills and use it as a form of exercise. The second league was more ‘serious’”.

Andy added: “The tournament went well and the teams really enjoyed it. Touch rugby is a great game. We are hoping to run a summer competition in July and August.”

The Young Guns squad was: Greg Burns, Craig Chapman, Jack Mitchell, Donald Kadangirana, Sandy Yere, Matt Bloomer, Dom Proctor, James Proctor, Martin Speed, Cory Aston.

The tournament was held at Hillsborough College starting last month and consisted of a taster session, a four-week league, semi-finals and finals night. The tournament was sponsored by Siemens VAI, with Nando’s providing a free meal for each player of the match.

The teams taking part were: Serious league - Young Guns, Swamp Donkeys, Steel City Sonics and Sheffield Oaks. Novice league - Special Sonics, College Amateurs, Yew Valley and Siemens VAI.

In the finals Special Sonics beat College Amateurs and the Young Guns beat Steel City Sonics.
