Charity Zumbathon shakes Sheffield

Sheffield Zumba fans taking part in a mass Latin American dance event have helped to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

More than 200 people swung into action to support the Sheffield Zumbathon at Don Valley Stadium in aid of the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Mending Broken Hearts Appeal.

Valerie Acaster whose husband is waiting for a heart transplant, Tim Bergin a player with Sheffield Eagles and BBC Radio Sheffield’s Paulette Edwards all put their heart into the aerobics dance event, which is expected to raise more than £5,000.

Denisa Darabant, Lead Volunteer for the event at BHF, said: “We would like to thank everyone who made the effort to take part and support this fantastic event.”

Dave Birds, Group Fitness Referral Manager at Sheffield International Venues, added: “We were delighted to partner with the British Heart Foundation, a fantastic charity, helping to raise vital funds for its appeal.  It was great to see so many people pack out Don Valley Stadium’s indoor track for this inspirational event.
