A commanding second half performance from the Eagles gave them a convincing 36-4 win over the York City Knights, and secured a 100% record in the Northern Rail Cup group stages.

Sheffield opened the scoring through Nev Morrison, who stepped in off the right touchline to register four points after a flowing passing move out wide. Simon Brown expertly converted from the touchline to reach the 300 point milestone for the Eagles and give the home side a six point lead.

The lead was doubled ten minutes later, Dominic Brambani this time profiting from good work by Mark Aston's troops, Quentin Laulu-Togagae supplying Vinny Finigan to make the break and give Brambani the simplest of tasks. Brown added the extras to make it 12-0.

Errors then began to creep into the Eagles' game and they were punished eight minutes from the half time interval. Laulu-Togagae knocked on close to his own line and Rhys Clarke was the beneficiary, latching on to a Jack Lee pass to touch down. Tom Bush missed the relatively simple conversion and the half time hooter sounded with the score at 12-4.

With the words of coach Mark Aston ringing in their ears, the Eagles produced a much better second half performance. Menzie Yere opened the scoring in the second stanza, running half the length of the field and shrugging off two would-be tacklers to score in the corner. Brown added the extra two points.

Brambani helped himself to his second try of the game shortly afterwards, getting on the end of Brown's grubber kick to touch down close to the centre of the field. Brown's simple conversion made the score 24-4.

Duane Straugheir then scored his first try for the Eagles from close range after a period of sustained pressure from the home side. Brown goaled from out wide on the right to bring up the 30 point mark.

The scoring was completed by Misi Taulapapa, the Samoan centre barging over on the right hand side after the ball was shipped wide. Brown rounded off a superb personal performance with the boot by maintaining his 100% record from the touchline and making the final score Sheffield Eagles 36-4 York City Knights.
