Sheffield Eagles cemented their place in the quarter finals of the Northern Rail Cup with a convincing 12-56 victory over Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The visitors' first half performance blew away the Dons, as the teams went into the half time sheds with the score at 0-40, and the result already in the bag.

The Eagles opened the scoring after eight minutes, sustanied pressure led to Liam Higgins being held up over the line, before the ball went wide for Nev Morrison to touch down.  Simon Brown expertly converted from the touchline to give Mark Aston's men a six point advantage.

Sheffield's advantage was doubled when Dominic Brambani threw the dummy to break through Doncaster's defence, and supply Joe Hirst for an easy four pointer.  Brown added the extras.

The lead was stretched shortly afterwards after an excellent offload from Eagles prop Jack Howieson sent Brambani running through, and he again passed the ball to Hirst to give the loose forward his second try of the game.  Brown goaled and the score was 0-18.

Alex Szostak was to register the visitors' next points of the game after 24 minutes, Brown putting him through the gap to touch down under the posts, and leave the stand-off with the simple task of adding the extra two points.

The Eagles' next try came in somewhat unusual fashion.  Brambani kicked the ball downfield, only for it to bounce back in to the hands of Morrison who offloaded to Misi Taulpapa, and the Samoan raced under the posts to notch Sheffield's fifth try of the game.  Brown again goaled to make the score 0-30.

A move from inside the vistors' own half created the next try, Mitchell Stringer getting away the initial offload before the ball was sent wide to Vinny Finigan who made the break towards the Dons' line and supplied full-back Quentin Laulu-Togagae to cross in the corner.  Brown blotted his so far perfect copybook against his former employers by missing the conversion, thus leaving Doncaster's arrears at 34 points.

The first half scoring was completed by Stringer after 37 minutes, running through a gaping hole in the hosts' defence after latching on to Brambani's pass.  Brown converted meaning the Eagles had managed a point per minute in the first 40 mins.

It was Brambani who carried on a fine personal performance by scoring the first points of the second half, placing a grubber kick into the in-goal area to force the mistake and eventually receive the ball back from Sam Scott to touch down.  Brown added the extra two points.

Brambani doubled his personal points tally shortly afterwards, Simon Brown hoisting the kick wide for substitute Duane Straugheir to collect and offload to the Eagles scrum half to score the try.  Brown hit the post with the conversion but the half century was brought up, 0-50.

Sheffield's final try was arguably the try of the game.  Hooker Andrew Henderson scooted away from dummy half to make the break, played a 'one-two' with Sam Scott before supplying Laulu-Togage for his second try of the game.  Brown converted meaning the Eagles had scored 79 unanswered point against Leigh and the Dons over the course of 80 minutes.

Two late consolation tries for the Dons through former Eagle Grant Edwards and winger Dean Colton will have undoubtedly angered Sheffield coach Mark Aston, but all in all it was a good day at the office for the visitors in this South Yorkshire Derby.  It finished Doncaster 12-56 Sheffield Eagles.
