MICHAEL KNOWLES MAKE MOVE FROM BARROW

ONE of the Championship most consistent performers Michael Knowles has signed for the Eagles from Barrow Raiders for next season.

Coach Mark Aston said: “I’m looking forward to working with Michael. He’s a young player with his best years in front of him. This is an important signing.

“He’ll add competition for places in the squad. Michael will add to our game – he runs good lines on the edges of the ruck and scores tries and can kick goals.”

Knowles has been given a two-year deal.

He will give Aston an experienced option that he lacked in the back row for much of last season.

Knowles, 24, is one of the most consistent try scorers in the competition - crossing 17 times in his two seasons at Barrow.

He joined the Cumbrians from Gateshead Thunder and also had a spell at Super League club Castleford Tigers. At Gateshead he was also the club’s main goal kicker.

He has been on Aston’s ‘wish list’ for a couple of years and the signing has been eased by Barrow’s demotion to Championship One following salary cap breaches. (JC)
