Sheffield Eagles v Batley Bulldogs

Bramall Lane, Sunday 30 August (kick-off 3pm)

Eagles and Batley go head-to-head with third and fourth place finishes in the Championship still up for grabs.

Bulldogs play their final game of the season knowing a win will guarantee them a third place. For the Eagles a big finish to the season could see them move into the top four.

Featherstone did the Eagles (and Batley) a favour when they have moved back to the top of the league with a 56-16 win over Widnes in midweek and put a big dent in the Vikings’ hopes of taking third place.

Eagles made sure of a place in the play-offs with the ‘bonus’ point at Barrow but it came at a price with physo Mick Heys being kept busy as the injury lists keeps growing.

Coach Mark Aston will check on Joe Hirst (hamstring) and Quentin Laulu-Togagae (hamstring) before making the final decision on his team.

Prop Mitch Stringer and hooker Andrew Henderson (shoulder) have also needed treatment but both are expected to be fit for the Eagles first game at Bramall Lane in 11 weeks.

Aston feels the team is moving back into form after a big final 60 minutes at Barrow before losing 36-26. He said: “We showed a lot of character and attitude to get back into the game after going 26 points down in the first 20 minutes.

“We’ve got three tough games left in the league but they are all at Bramall Lane and we want to show our fans how we can play and get as high a finish as we can.”

Danny Maun could return to Karl Harrison's Batley squad after being rested for last week's 32-10 over Toulouse, while prop Adam Robinson is also set to return after recovering from a recent knee injury.
