Bower joins Eagles from Doncaster

Promising centre Connor Bower has signed for Sheffield Eagles on a two-year deal.

Bower has enjoyed two seasons with Doncaster in League 1 after leaving boyhood club Hull FC at the end of 2017.

Having scored 14 tries in 28 appearances for the Dons in 2019, Eagles chief Mark Aston had his sights set on the outside back and Bower decided to make the move across South Yorkshire.

“For me, I’ve always aspired to get to this level (the Championship),” said the centre.

“I’m finally happy that it has come about.

“When I spoke to Mark (Aston), everything he was saying was music to my ears and I could really picture myself being here - especially after talking to the Hull boys too, they speak very highly of Mark and the club itself.

“To progress as a player is something I want to do and I’m happy to say I’ll be here for the next two years as it’s comfortable for myself so I can knuckle down and hopefully we can have a couple of successful seasons.”

Having left a Super League setup in 2017, Bower has shone in a Dons side that have competed at the top-end of the third tier.

He feels the time is right to make the move up to the Championship, where he also had interest from other sides.

“At the time of leaving Hull, it was bittersweet as I’ve grown up in the city but to get the chance at Donny was really good,” Bower added.

“The past two years have developed me as a player but I am at the age where I need to test myself a bit more.

“I have had interest from the Championship and I’m more than delighted to be joining Sheffield.

“It’s nice to say I can play with high quality players, in a more competitive league where I can push myself even more.”

Eagles CEO Liam Claffey commented on the signing of Bower: “Connor came through a great system at Hull FC and during the past two years at the Dons he has been a key player for them,”

“He’s still young and has plenty of room to develop. Hopefully being coached by an experienced centre in Keith Senior will see him do just that.”

“I’d like to thank Connor’s agent Graeme Taylor for his assistance with this deal and in helping bring Zack McComb to the club, who was announced late last month.”

“Both have performed excellently in Betfred League 1 in 2019 and will be valuable additions to our 2020 squad.”

You can watch Connor in action at the Olympic Legacy Park in 2020 with a Season Membership.
