An Update From The Office
An Update from The Office
Whilst the players and backroom staff get some much needed down time after an excellent season, the work behind the scenes continues at a rapid pace.
The Home & Away playing kits for the 2020 have now been designed and will be unveiled late October to early November. They are striking designs, very different to our 2019 kits and fingers crossed everyone likes them as much as us!
Whilst sales of 2019 replica shirts were the best for quite some time, we still had a sizeable portion of unsold shirts which affected the profitability. We’ve learnt from this and once designs are released, we aim to take pre-orders to keeping quantities / unsold stock to a minimum and also allow those that pre-order to get their shirts in time for Christmas.
A third / competition kit will also be designed and likely to be unveiled in the new year. Depending in kit clashes it will may be used for the Summer Bash along with the Challenge Cup & 1895 Cup competitions – a striking / different kit design to anything for several years.
We have remained with our kit suppliers O’Neills for a fourth consecutive season and will be looking to further develop our relationship with them over the coming year along with the range of merchandise available for supporters.
Commercial Director Mark Hannigan and the board have done a fantastic job again in terms of sponsors and partners on the kits with all our 2019 sponsors remaining in place along with two new additions as well.
Mark Aston has been busy finalising his squad for 2020, with a number of new additions and retaining a significant number of the 2019 squad.
Josh Guzdek, Anthony Thackeray, James Davey, Brad Knowles, Aaron Brown, James Glover, Paddy Burns & Blake Broadbent all already under contract for next season and it was announced after the 1895 Cup Final Ryan Millar, Joel Farrell & Captain Matt James have all agreed new two-year deals with the club.
We hope to from next week we can begin announcing who else will be remaining with the Eagles in 2020 along with new additions to the squad, perhaps with some old faces returning…
Pat Walker has retired after a long and fantastic career and the club is indebted for his two periods of service, both of which he helped bring silverware back to the city.
Shaun Pick & Ben Blackmore have headed to Batley & Featherstone respectively, all the best to them at their new clubs.
Sonny Esslemont, James Thornton, Jason Crookes & Joslin Landu did not agree new deals and we thank them and wish them well in their future careers.
Memberships should be launched later this week and after the fantastic performances at the Olympic Legacy Park this year, coupled with our unforgettable 1895 Cup Final victory we hope you will get behind the boys again next year and more take up what we believe is fantastic prices for membership.
We have perhaps not provided members with the full benefits of their membership in previous seasons and we accept we should and need to do more and so there will be a host of benefits / offers provided at various stages throughout 2020 alongside what is great saving compared to match day prices.
We will continue with a mixture of Friday evening and Sunday afternoon games which the general consensus approved but as with everything some prefer a single option.
The club’s new logo will be unveiled in the next few weeks, a daunting and nervous proposition for the club.
The current incarnation has been used for around 11 years now, updated slightly from the previous version used since the club reformed back in 1999.
Whilst there is a lot of love and appreciation for the current design it is dated and with the new stadium at the OLP on the horizon we need a refreshed simple and modern brand to lead into what will hopefully be a new era for the club.
The club has consulted with key stakeholders including sponsors, staff, players and supporters along with a comprehensive survey surrounding a brand change which was filled in by nearly 100 supporters.
Those views from the survey and consultation process were key in the change of brand and whilst no doubt some dislike the change or not wish any change at all (as a small percentage expressed through the survey) we are excited by what could be a new dawn for Sheffield Eagles
Olympic Legacy Park
You will have all seen the fantastic news that construction will finally start on the stadium at the OLP this coming December.
A finished date for construction is hopefully around August next year and whilst people may think that is a short space of time you will have noticed how rapidly the other buildings on the site have risen what construction commenced including the AWRC & National Centre of Excellence for Food Engineering both of which will open shortly.
We will remain at the Legacy Park whilst construction takes place and facilities, we’ve had in place to date will remain during that time.
Finer details are yet to be ironed out and there could be a few teething issues during the season, but we intend to provide a much better experience and increased activities on a match day and are hopeful that once part of the construction and completed during the season, they will become available for supporters to use.
Any questions, queries or anything else, as always please email the club at email@example.com
