Menzie signs & heads to Doncaster on loan
Sheffield Eagles are delighted to confirm Menzie Yere has signed a contract with the club until the end of the 2019 season.
Yere has been in the process on obtaining indefinite leave to remain in the UK for some time and this was granted last week enabling to recommence his employment with the club.
The Eagles stalwart has been with the club since 2009 after catching Mark Aston’s attentions during the 2008 World Cup with his exploits for Papua New Guinea.
The fans favourite has amassed nearly 300 appearances for the Eagles during his 10 year tenure in the UK, crossing for an impressive 192 tries.
He is the club’s highest all-time try scorer, surpassing Daryl Powell’s career total of 114 and he still holds the club record for the most tries scored in one season, crossing for a staggering 46 tries in 2013.
As part of the signing, Yere will head to Betfred League 1 side Doncaster on an initial one month loan deal. The loan begins with immediate effect and Menzie will be eligible to play in their Coral Challenge Cup match against Batley this weekend with the Eagles already out of the competition,
Speaking of the news Eagles General Manager Liam Claffey said; “It’s great news that Menzie has been granted leave to remain, none more so than for him and his family.”
“Menzie and his family are indebted to people like Chairman Chris Noble, our dedicated supporters & Chris Jones at Work Permit Experts for their tireless assistance especially over the last few months.”
“Menzie has kept himself busy during the interim in the community game with appearances for Sheffield Hawks RLFC & Stocksbridge RUFC but he requires some much needed game time at a professional level.”
“Thanks to Carl Hall at Doncaster for helping to enable this move, we are sure Menzie will be fantastic addition as they push for promotion this season with some key fixtures over the next few weeks.
