Win over Barrow "would set a marker" says Brown
An Eagles victory over Barrow Raiders at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium on Sunday would “set a marker” according to loose forward Aaron Brown.
The former Dewsbury Rams stalwart is expecting a gritty contest against the Raiders on an undoubtedly boggy Cumbrian pitch.
But after last weekend’s triumph over Swinton Lions, there’s certainly room for optimism.
“The (positive) signs have been there throughout pre-season and we have had time to gel,” he said.
“We seemed to click quite well (against Swinton) but we have to expect a tough battle on their (Barrow’s) pitch.
“It’ll be a mud-bath and a forwards’ game.
“It’ll be tough, cold, but we have to take it in our stride.
“We have been working on the forwards’ wrestle and getting stuck in during pre-season.
“We will definitely be up for the challenge and meet them head-on in the pack.
“If we get this result on Sunday, it will set a marker for us.
“People will take a look at us and think ‘Sheffield are back on the map’.
“It is a good time to be a part of Sheffield Eagles.”
The lead-up to the contest will see a Sheffield camp buzzing with confidence after their eye-catching start to the season.
Brown mentioned the importance of turning that atmosphere into good performances, firstly by doing the hard yards in training.
“Everyone comes in with a smile on their face after a win on the Sunday,” the forward added.
“There’s always a good tempo in training the following week and we have to keep taking it into the next game and go from there.”
