We need to put home form right says Eagles chief

Mark Aston has challenged his Sheffield Eagles players to amend the club’s indifferent home form when they take on Swinton Lions at the Olympic Legacy Park this weekend.

The Eagles have won just once in six games at their new home and Aston is eager for that to change.

Sheffield’s lone victory came against Rochdale Hornets in round eight while full-time teams Leigh Centurions and London Broncos have come away from South Yorkshire with convincing wins.

“The thing for us is that we have been disappointing at home this year,” said Aston.

“We haven’t hit our straps, we have one game here and one game there.

“We have embarrassed ourselves and let the fans down over the last so many (home) games.

“We need to put that right and we need a strong performance at home.”

The Eagles Director of Rugby welcomed a potential “selection headache”, with two experienced figures set to make their return.

“We’ll have a few players back,” he added.

“Hopefully Matty James will be back, Simon Brown will be back for selection.

“We might be in a nice position where we have got a selection headache.

“It’s about us, it always is.

“It’s never about our ability, it’s about our mentality.

“We are on a nice climb with our performances and we need to keep that going.”
