Eagles sign Scotland International Thomas
Sheffield Eagles are delighted to announce the signing of Scotland international back Oscar Thomas from Bradford Bulls on a one-year deal.
Thomas was the leading points scorer in Bradford’s squad last year and he heads to the Olympic Legacy Park with the aim of having the same impact.
Capable of playing at full-back as well as in the halves, the London-born operator’s utility value could come in handy for coach Mark Aston.
His performances for the Bulls caught the eye of Scotland coach Steve McCormack, who selected the former Bronco for the recent Rugby League World Cup.
Thomas missed the first group game but played the final two and he also crossed the whitewash against the Kiwis.
The back leaves Bradford after making 41 appearances, scoring eight tries and kicking 67 goals.
Speaking of the signing, Eagles Head Coach Mark Aston said, “I’m thrilled we have been able to bring Oscar to the Eagles.
“He’s still a relatively young player, he only turned 24 last week. He’s good with ball in hand and is hungry and eager to play.”
“He will be joining us for his first training session tonight (Thursday) but he will be thrown in at the deep end and will feature against Bradford on Sunday.
“We need to see him in a match environment but we know what he is capable of and featuring in the World Cup, he won’t be far off where he needs to be.”
Thomas becomes the third member of the 2017 Bulls squad to join the Eagles following Iliess Macani and Jon Magrin to Sheffield and all will feature in Sunday's warm-up match at Odsal, kick off is 3.00pm.
