Macani ready for Bulls return

Ahead of his first game in Sheffield Eagles colours, speedster Iliess Macani is motivated to take to the pitch once again and face off against former club Bradford Bulls.

Macani’s lone season at the Provident Stadium saw him score ten tries in 25 games and he’ll be aiming to better that total in the Steel City.

Returning to his former stomping ground will be an interesting feeling for the London-born back, just a few months after departing.

“I’m really feeling up for it,” he said.

“It’s been a while since I played, it’s been a long pre-season and I can’t wait to get back on the pitch.”

Months after Macani signed for Bradford, the club were forced into liquidation and had to start up from scratch as well as copping a hefty points deduction.

After a rollercoaster year in West Yorkshire, the 24-year-old has had time to reflect and learn from his experiences.

“It was a very turbulent season at Bradford, it was really tough times,” he added.

“It has helped me have a new view on life and a better drive in terms of my career.”

With the first pre-season match on the horizon, training has started to ramp up with coach Mark Aston putting his players through their paces.

When asked how training has been going, Macani said: “It has really picked up in the last couple of days, we’ve picked up the intensity because of the game coming up.

“Everyone is getting to know each other and were all getting geared up for the game.

“It will be a tough game, they beat Halifax so we know they’ll be up for it.

“I spoke to a few of the guys there and I know they’re really keen to get stuck in. It will be an interesting game.”

Tickets for Sunday's pre-season clash against Bradford Bulls are still available to buy.
